In the meeting, both parties engaged in strategic discussions on key priorities, including: expanding distributed energy sources (such as rooftop solar power), developing offshore wind energy, implementing a Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism, updating the Draft Electricity Law (amended), and adopting measures to promote efficient, economical energy use.

PEWG highlighted the crucial role of private sector participation in power infrastructure and the importance of policies that encourage investments in renewable energy, particularly wind and solar power, to enhance Vietnam’s national energy security.

Addressing the delegation, Chairman of the Board of Directors Dang Hoang An emphasized: “A core strategic objective of EVN is to balance the development of renewable energy sources with the continued reliance on traditional power sources to maintain grid stability, provide reliable and safe power supply, and uphold economic, technical, and environmental standards. Achieving this objective depends critically on cooperation with the private sector and international support in technology sharing, expertise, and financing. This support enables EVN to continuously improve energy efficiency, optimize operational costs, and advance a renewable energy development pathway that aligns with national needs. The Vietnamese government is actively working to create more favorable conditions for private sector participation in developing the national power infrastructure.”

EVN leaders also underscored Vietnam’s current energy challenges, which extend beyond merely ensuring adequate supply to meet economic growth and public welfare. These challenges also involve advancing a green and sustainable energy transition aligned with the nation’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

PEWG conveyed its commitment to supporting EVN in developing public-private partnership models and sharing international insights on energy transition, aiming to help EVN achieve sustainable objectives and enhance grid management efficiency.

Both sides agreed to continue fostering this positive partnership and to work towards implementing these collaborative initiatives in the near future.
