14:57, 13/09/2022

That is the topic of a seminar jointly organized by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Tetra Tech (consulting unit of the United States Agency for International Development - USAID). The seminar took place on the afternoon of September 12 in Hanoi, chaired by Mr. Vo Quang Lam, EVN's Deputy General Director, Head of the Department for the Advancement of Women of EVN.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, EVN Deputy General Director Vo Quang Lam said that in 2022, EVN will prioritize the training in gender equality awareness for leaders and employees in EVN. EVN determined that awareness-raising activities need to focus on inspiring, creating cohesion among men and women in the unit, connecting work and family, connecting work with the community, building trust in gender equality.

At the seminar, delegates listened to Ms. Elicia Blumberg presenting content on raising awareness of gender equality by experts from Tetra Tech and USAID; the vision and benefits of gender equality in business; the importance of leadership in the success of gender equality, and discussions made towards the short-term and long-term success of EVN with its gender equality goals.

According to Elicia Blumberg, a study conducted by the World Bank (WB) shows that achieving gender parity in the workplace can add up to USD 12 trillion to the global economy. Among the 25 most equitable energy companies, the company with better gender equality achieved 47% higher in profits; 59.1% growth in creativity, innovation & openness. Therefore, it can be seen that the good performance of gender equality can help businesses increase operational efficiency as well as profits.

Ms. Elicia Blumberg noted that over the past time, EVN in general and EVN's member units in particular have paid great attention to gender equality. This will be an opportunity for female employees to contribute more to EVN, be able to compete for positions in the technical field, increase labor productivity, and the enterprise will also benefit from more education and training programs. Decision-making will be better with a more multi-dimensional view and higher effectiveness.

According to Ms. Elicia Blumberg, to promote gender equality, EVN needs to have many priority activities. It is to increase the participation of female workers in all production and business activities of EVN, with necessary support such as policy approval and financial support for scholarship and internship programs. Besides, EVN also needs to give priority to improving the quality of female workers by increasing online training, etc.; Prioritize the increasing participation of female employees in management and administration with the expectation that the percentage of female employees in 2025 will reach 15% of executive levels, 20% in the next phase plan, and so on.

Within the framework of cooperation between EVN and USAID on gender equality, Vietnam Electricity will coordinate with USAID and Tetra Tech to organize seminars of raising awareness on gender equality within EVN in the offline form in 3 regions.

- The total number of female employees in EVN is 19,948 people, accounting for 20.6% of the total number of employees in EVN (a total of 96,660 people);

- The proportion of female cadres appointed to the level of the department, division, workshop, and team to EVN level is 1,845 people, accounting for 9.2% of the total number of female staff (a total of 19,948 people).
