Strengthening Vietnam-China cooperation in energy sector

On the morning of November 14, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) held a meeting with the Lancang-Mekong International Company (LMI) and the Yunnan Power Grid Company (YNPG) to discuss the electricity purchase agreement for 2025 and cooperation plans for the 2026-2030 period.

The Chinese delegation included Mr. Cheng Jun, Deputy General Director of LMI, and Ms. Zhang Hong, Deputy General Director of YNPG, along with senior executives from both companies.

EVN was represented by Vice President Ngo Son Hoi, who chaired the meeting, alongside representatives from EVN's specialized departments.

At the meeting, both sides discussed the Electricity Purchase Agreement for 2025 and the cooperation plans for the 2026-2030 period, engaging in detailed discussions on cooperative strategies in the areas of power supply and transmission between Vietnam and China.

Alongside establishing specific targets for 2025, the two parties also outlined a long-term roadmap for the 2026-2030 period, emphasizing technical solutions, financial mechanisms, and essential steps for collaboration to optimize the efficiency of cross-border electricity trade.

EVN’s Vice President Ngo Son Hai stressed that close cooperation with LMI and YNPG significantly enhances EVN’s capacity to meet Vietnam’s rising power demand and forms a vital component of the corporation's strategy to strengthen international partnerships.

The meeting enabled both sides to gain a clearer understanding of each country's energy needs, objectives, and developmental directions. EVN and its Chinese partners committed to maintaining regular meetings to monitor progress and update their cooperation plans, aiming for sustainable development that benefits both nations.

EVN’s leadership expressed confidence in the enduring partnership between the parties, hoping for continued support and experience-sharing in technical matters and efficient grid operations.

The leaders of both sides also agreed to sustain regular meetings to exchange views, analyze, assess, and develop actionable plans for the upcoming period.
